SAT and ACT Test Prep in Houston and Online

By Ibrahim C. Firat, MBA · IECA Professional Member and past Board President · Guiding students since 2008

Firat Education offers one on one SAT and ACT prep, in person in Houston and online anywhere, built around your student's starting point, target schools, and test date. The digital SAT and the enhanced ACT both changed in 2024 and 2025, so preparation today looks different than it did a few years ago. We begin every plan with a full length diagnostic, help you choose the test that fits your student best, then build a personalized path toward a first strong score, a superscore strategy, or a competitive admissions target. Families work with us from Houston and across the country, whichever format fits.

SAT vs ACT: how the two tests compare in 2026

Most students can succeed on either exam, and nearly all colleges accept both with no preference. The right choice comes down to which format plays to your student's strengths. Here is how they line up now that both tests are shorter and the SAT is fully digital.

Not sure which one? The Roadmap includes a diagnostic on both so the choice is based on real scores rather than a guess.

Sessions blend content review with strategy: how the adaptive digital SAT rewards a strong first module, how to manage the enhanced ACT's faster pace, when the optional ACT Science section is worth taking, and how superscoring across sittings can lift a final result.

How it works

  1. Start with the Firat Assessment and Roadmap. A one on one session that sets your student's baseline, goals, and timeline. This is the required first step.
  2. Diagnose and choose the test. Full length SAT and ACT diagnostics show which exam fits best and where the points are.
  3. Build the personalized plan. We map content, strategy, and a testing calendar to your target scores and application deadlines.
  4. Tutor and practice. One on one sessions plus full length practice tests under realistic conditions, in person or online.
  5. Confirm readiness. We track scores and confirm your student is ready before the official test date.

Frequently asked questions

Should my student take the SAT or the ACT?

Nearly every college accepts both with no preference, so it comes down to fit. The digital SAT is adaptive and slightly longer per question; the enhanced ACT moves faster and now has an optional Science section. Your Roadmap includes diagnostics on both so the decision is based on real scores.

What changed with the digital SAT?

The SAT is now fully digital and adaptive, taken in the Bluebook app. It runs about 2 hours 14 minutes with 98 questions across Reading and Writing and Math, still scored 400 to 1600, with no penalty for wrong answers.

What changed with the ACT?

As of 2025 the ACT is shorter, Science is optional and no longer part of the Composite, and Writing remains optional. The required English, Math, and Reading sections take about two hours and are scored on the familiar 1 to 36 Composite.

How many hours of prep does my student need?

It depends on the gap between the diagnostic and the target score. After the Roadmap we recommend a specific number of sessions and a testing calendar. Most students prepare over 2 to 4 months alongside school.

How early should we start?

Many students begin the summer before junior year or early in junior year so there is time for two or three sittings and a superscore. Earlier starts leave more room to adjust.

Do you tutor online or only in person?

Both. We work in person in Houston and online by Zoom nationwide, and plans can blend the two.
