ACT Test Prep in Houston and Online
By Ibrahim C. Firat, MBA · IECA Professional Member and past Board President · Guiding students since 2008
Firat Education offers one on one ACT prep, in person in Houston and online anywhere, built around the enhanced ACT and an efficient, coachable strategy. The ACT is faster and more predictable than the SAT, which is exactly what makes it so coachable: the same question patterns come back again and again. We teach those patterns, build speed and pacing, and drill the exact item types that lift your Composite. Deciding between the SAT and the ACT? Start with our SAT vs ACT comparison.
The ACT is fast and predictable. Because the same question types repeat, the test rewards students who know the patterns cold and can move quickly and accurately. We prep for exactly that: pattern recognition, pacing, and clean execution under time, so your Composite reflects what you actually know.

What is on the enhanced ACT in 2026
The ACT changed in 2025. The core test is shorter, Science is now optional and no longer part of the Composite, and Writing remains optional. Each section is fast, so pacing matters as much as content.
| Section | Questions & time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| English | 50 questions, about 35 minutes | Grammar, usage, and rhetoric in passages |
| Math | 45 questions, about 50 minutes | Calculator allowed throughout |
| Reading | 36 questions, about 40 minutes | Four passages, fast pace |
| Science (optional) | 40 questions, about 40 minutes | Add on; not part of the Composite |
| Writing (optional) | One essay | Scored separately on a 2 to 12 scale |
The required English, Math, and Reading sections make up the Composite, scored on the familiar 1 to 36 scale. We help you decide whether the optional Science and Writing sections are worth taking for your college list.
What we prepare your student for
Sessions focus on the recurring patterns the ACT reuses, the pacing that the fast sections demand, and the clean execution that turns knowledge into points. We also plan whether the optional Science and Writing sections help your target colleges.

Pricing
Every engagement starts with the Firat Assessment and Roadmap, a one on one working session with Ibrahim that maps your student's baseline, target score, and timeline before any tutoring begins.
Your required first step and the plan the whole engagement runs on.
One on one test prep runs $180 to $220 per hour and includes unlimited full length practice tests and strategy meetings. Most plans run $3,000 to $9,000, starting from $1,760, depending on how far your student is from the goal and how much time there is. Because every plan is built from your diagnostic and goals, we quote the full scope after the Roadmap so you know it up front. Full details are on the pricing page.
Taking the SAT instead?
Some students score higher on the digital SAT, where our Firat SAT Score Map targets the exact gaps costing points. Compare the two on our SAT vs ACT page, or go straight to SAT test prep. Not sure which fits? The Roadmap runs a diagnostic on both and tells you.
Prefer a structured plan to work through on your own? Our Personalized Independent Study Plan is a written, test specific study guide.
Frequently asked questions
What changed with the ACT?
As of 2025 the ACT is shorter, Science is optional and no longer part of the Composite, and Writing remains optional. The required English, Math, and Reading sections take about two hours and are scored on the 1 to 36 Composite.
Why is the ACT easier to prep for than the SAT?
The ACT is faster and more predictable, and the same question patterns repeat. That makes it highly coachable: once a student knows the patterns and builds pacing, the score tends to move efficiently.
Should my student take the optional Science or Writing section?
It depends on your target colleges. During the Roadmap we check which sections your schools want and build the plan around that.
How long does ACT prep take?
It depends on the gap between your diagnostic Composite and your target. After the Roadmap we recommend a specific number of sessions and a testing calendar, usually over 2 to 4 months alongside school.
Do you help with superscoring?
Yes. Many students test more than once, and we plan the calendar so the strongest sections combine into the best possible superscore.
Do you tutor online or only in person?
Both. We work in person in Houston and online by Zoom nationwide, and plans can blend the two.
