College & Career Assessment

By Ibrahim C. Firat, MBA · IECA and NACAC member · Guiding students since 2008

The College and Career Assessment is where the whole college process begins. Before a single school goes on a list, it tells you who your student is and where they should aim: the right majors, the right careers, and a starting list of at least 25 best fit colleges, all delivered as a written plan you keep. Everything that comes after, the list, the essays, the testing, is stronger because it starts here. Available in person in Houston and online anywhere.

Why start with the assessment

It is the first thing we recommend, before the college list, the essays, or test prep. Here is why, and the track record behind it.

100%
of students who complete the College and Career Assessment enroll at a college on their report.
Know the student before the list
A college list is only as good as the self understanding behind it. The assessment builds that understanding first, on evidence rather than guesswork.
Majors chosen by fit stick
Students who are genuinely interested in their major from the start switch less often and tend to score higher than their peers. That saves time, money, and a lost year.
One plan the whole process runs on
Course selection, testing targets, essays, and the college list all trace back to this one document, so every later decision is aligned.
It is the first step, by design
The assessment sets the direction the rest of the Firat process follows. It is the highest leverage move you can make early.

What Is Inside Your College & Career Assessment Report

The report draws on a combination of established personality and career interest assessments, which Ibrahim synthesizes into one written plan built entirely around your student. We do not rely on any single test. No two reports are the same. Here is how it comes together, section by section.

1Executive Summary
A plain language overview of who your student is and where the assessment points.
What you get
  • The headline read on personality
  • The strongest major and career directions
  • The kind of college that fits, on one page
Why it matters

Your family sees the whole picture before the detail, so the plan is easy to act on.

2Personality Profile
A read on how your student takes in information, makes decisions, and works best, drawn from established personality assessments.
What you get
  • A clear picture of your student's working and learning style
  • Strengths and blind spots that shape school and career fit
  • How your student tends to perform in different environments
Why it matters

Fit with a college environment and a major starts with how your student is wired.

3Motivation and Drivers
A look at what genuinely motivates your student and where they tend to get stuck.
What you get
  • What drives your student, and what drains them
  • How they prefer to learn and communicate
  • The conditions that bring out their best work
Why it matters

Motivation predicts persistence. It explains why some settings energize your student and others drain them.

4Work and Communication Style
How your student leads, collaborates, communicates, and handles responsibility.
What you get
  • A read on how your student works alongside others
  • How they respond to pressure and competition
  • The kinds of roles that fit their natural style
Why it matters

It separates the roles your student will thrive in from the ones that will wear them down.

5Career Interests
What your student is genuinely drawn to, measured across the major areas of interest.
What you get
  • Ranked interest areas that point toward fields
  • The core skills that stand out
  • A cross check across more than one measure
Why it matters

Interest from the start is the single best predictor that a student sticks with a major and does well in it.

6Career Clusters
A synthesis of every result into the two or three career fields that fit best.
What you get
  • Ranked clusters, each with a fit percentage
  • The top matched jobs in each cluster
  • Current salary and job growth data for every role
Why it matters

Your student sees real careers, real pay, and real demand, not a vague you would be good with people.

7Recommended Majors and Minors
The college majors that match the profile, ranked and explained.
What you get
  • About a dozen majors, each with a fit percentage
  • Strong major and minor combinations
  • Graduate and professional paths to keep open
Why it matters

This is the bridge from who my student is to what to actually study.

8College List
A personalized list of at least 25 best fit colleges, tiered and explained.
What you get
  • Every school with location, size, and a fit percentage
  • A short reason each one fits
  • Tiers built around your student's own priorities
Why it matters

A real starting list built on fit, not a ranking or a rumor, so the search begins focused.

9Research and Narrowing
A method for cutting the list to a final eight to twelve schools.
What you get
  • The sources to use and what to check
  • How to verify program accreditation
  • How to sort schools into visit buckets
Why it matters

It hands your student a process, so the research phase is productive instead of overwhelming.

10Action Plan
The whole assessment turned into a sequenced, dated plan.
What you get
  • College counseling timeline
  • Target test scores, GPA, and course selection
  • Service hours and specific summer programs, calibrated to now
Why it matters

This is what makes the report a plan and not just a personality read. Every family leaves knowing the next step.

How the assessment works

  1. Start with the Firat Roadmap ($300). The one hour front door that sets up the assessment and your goals.
  2. Assessment session. A three hour one on one session between your student and Ibrahim, working through the personality, interest, and career instruments.
  3. Report delivery. A one hour session where your student and at least one parent review the full written plan, in person, by video, or by email.
Give your student the plan the whole process runs on.

Frequently asked questions

Why start with the assessment instead of a college list?

Because a list built before you understand the student is a guess. The assessment establishes the majors, careers, and fit criteria first, so the list that follows is targeted rather than generic. To date, 100% of students who complete it enroll at a college on their report.

What is actually in the report?

Ten sections, from personality and interest profiles to career clusters with salary data, about a dozen ranked best fit majors, a list of at least 25 best fit colleges, and a dated action plan. The full section by section breakdown is on this page above.

What grade should my student be in?

Designed for tenth grade and up, though families planning earlier also find it valuable. Earlier insight means more time to act on the plan.

How long does it take?

A three hour one on one assessment session, plus a one hour session to deliver and walk through the written report with at least one parent.

Can I see a full sample report?

Yes. We keep complete sample reports private so they stay unique to our families, but we are happy to send one on request. Just text or email us.
