Houston Private School Admissions Timeline & Milestones

Start with the admissions process

The ISEE is just one part of a private school application. Before registering for the test, it is important to understand each school's admissions timeline, including application deadlines, interviews, teacher recommendations, transcripts, and other required materials. Every school is different. Some have earlier deadlines, some offer rolling admissions, and some may not require the ISEE at all. Your testing plan should always align with your child's specific school list. Learn more about the private school application process.

Plan backward from the deadline

Once you know your schools' admissions deadlines, you can build your ISEE timeline. A typical sequence looks like this:

1. Research schools and build your school list.
2. Review each school's admissions requirements and deadlines.
3. Prepare for the ISEE.
4. Take the ISEE with enough time to receive and send scores.
5. Complete the remainder of the admissions process.

Giving your child enough preparation time before testing can reduce stress and often leads to a stronger performance.

Every student's timeline is different

There is no single "right" month to take the ISEE. The ideal testing date depends on:

• The schools your child is applying to
• Each school's admissions deadlines
• Your child's current academic readiness
• How much preparation time your child needs
• Whether your child plans to retake the exam

The goal is not simply to take the ISEE. It is to take it at the right time within your child's overall admissions strategy.
